In 2007 the Auckland Society of Model Engineers decided to celebrate the club’s 50th anniversary with a special exhibition to be held in October 2009 at the adjacent Waipuna Conference Centre. This was to be different to previous exhibitions run by the club in that exhibits would include models from deceased members and a number of older models from MOTAT (Museum of Transport and Technology) in Auckland, most of which had been built by club members. The exhibition was run over three days which turned out to be rather wet but fortunately was fine while transporting the exhibits in and out of the exhibition halls. The exhibition was very successful with 274 items on display from 95 members, and included 85 items which were outsourced as explained above.
