Nigel Ball’s

This fine and large model by Nigel Ball is of a Hunslet 2-8-4 pannier tank narrow gauge locomotive of the type exported to India in 1958. The design dates back to the early 1930s as a locomotive intended for the Welsh Highland/Ffestiniog Railway. However, it was not built at that time. The model is how Nigel believes it would have been if it had been built at that time. The model took three and a half years to build and has covered many miles since completion in July 2013.

The model is 67.5” long and 15” wide. It weighs in at around 300kg. A 90psi boiler powers 2” dia x 3” stroke cylinders which drive 5.5” dia wheels. Drawings and castings were from GLR/Kennions. Model Engineers Laser provided cut parts, and A1 Machining (Nottingham) produced CNC parts.
