FODEN C TYPE

STEAM TRACTOR

Foden steam wagons are always popular exhibits at exhibitions, especially larger versions like this C-type tractor in 4.5” scale shown by Brian Marsh at the 2017 Midlands Exhibition. It was built over a period of five years.

Built for about ten years from 1922, Foden’s C-type was widely regarded as probably the best over-type steam wagon. Many were scrapped and today’s rare survivors are worth six figures (pounds stg). The tractors were mainly used for timber extraction from forests and for haulage to timber mills.
