A fine LNER class 01 2-8-0 heavy freight locomotive shown by Paul Paviour at the Midlands Model Engineering Exhibition. The 01 class were rebuilt from class 04, itself a development of the Class 8K of the GCR. It was initially planned that a total of 160 Class O4s would be rebuilt as Class O1. However, the programme was halted in 1949 when BR received a large number of ex-WD Austerity 2-8-0s. Only 58 Class O4s were made between 1944 and 1949, and re-classified as Thompson Class O1. The main modifications to the original GCR Class 8K design were the incorporation of a standard LNER 100A boiler, Walschaerts valve gear, new cylinders and and a new cab. It weighed 73 tons 6 cwt plus a tender of 48 tons 6 cwt.
