Every year one of the highlights of the London Model Engineering Exhibition at Alexandra Palace is a display of models that have been donated to the Society of Model and Experimental Engineers over more than 100 years. In recent times these engines have been restored by SMEE members so that they can be shown. They include many unusual and different models as well as more familiar items. They have been made by both famous and unknown model engineers. Members can have access to them, and a small selection can be seen at a few shows each year. These shown here are just some that were on display at Alexandra Palace in 2015. It’s probably no coincidence that a decline in SMEE membership has been reversed in the past fews years with the emergence of the restored engines.
