WINDERMERE STEAM LAUNCH
One of the highlights at the London Model Engineering Exhibition at Alexandra Palace in 2015 was the Windermere steam launch, Falcon, built by Bill Langton. It is based on the launch Swallow and was built without plans, from photographs. The hull and superstructure are made from teak. Power is supplied by a Stuart triple expansion engine and a gas fired Yarrow type boiler, driving a variable pitch propeller. The Windermere steam kettle seen next to the funnel is a working one.
Build time for this wonderful model was around 20 years.
