BOATS AT ALLY PALLY 2012

For some reason, boats tend to be ignored in reports from model engineering exhibitions. At the London Model Engineering Exhibition at Alexandra Palace there was a super variety of boats which caught the eye. There was an amazing model of the Titanic in its centenary year. Then there was a large model under construction which will be used to attempt the model boat endurance record for the Guinness Book of Records. Totally gobsmacking was the display of 550 scratch built ships to 1:1200 scale presented as the Royal Spithead Review, the result of 30 years work by Jack Snary representing 3000 years of marine history - from ancient Egypt to the Royal Navy’s latest, HMS Darling. All that and so much more with models for speed, elegance or just a pleasure on the eye. Model boat club support for this event is outstanding.
