The company was formed by Henry Berry in 1883 at  Croydon Works, Hunslet, Leeds as a maker of hydraulic presses, hydraulic riveting machines, hydraulic pressure pumps and various types of hydraulic machine tools. Later it specialized in extrusion presses. It became part of the Brockhouse Group in 1968, acquired by Group Rhodes in 2003
