BREMEN HOT AIR
PUMPING ENGINE

This rare model of the rare Bremen hot air or ‘caloric’ pumping engine was shown by Bob Sier at the 2020 London Model engineering Exhibition.
The Bremen Manufacturing Company of Bremen, Ohio, first built a patented ‘noiseless caloric pumping engine’ in 1906, based on an earlier patent from 1896.
The 6” bore caloric engine lifted water from 25’ below to 75’ above the engine. The engine burned gas, gasolene or alcohol.
Hot air pumping engines were usually placed in the basement of a house, pumping water to a tank on a higher floor. The Bremen is now one of the rarer examples of hot air engines, with fewer made than by three competing companies in the New York area.
