CONNOR’S CALEDONIAN 2-4-0 IN 5” GAUGE

By Simon Hudson

This model is from the MEWS archive and back when the National Model Engineering and Modelling Exhibtion was held in Harrogate. It was shown by Simon Hudson. It is an example of a rarely modelled prototype, Connor's 2-4-0 built by Neilson's in 1865 for the Caledonian Railway.

Potential for modelling this attractive, high Victorian style prototype first came to the attention of senior Rolls Royce engineer and model engineering polymath the late Roy Amsbury. He produced a set of drawings and patterns for his own use - the engine taking a silver medal at the Model Engineer Exhibition and a good performance at IMLEC.

Castings later became available to other builders.
