Following on from Graham Meek’s book Workshop Projects reviewed on these pages, readers might like to see the original dis-engage for the Meek system as developed on one of my Super 7s.
That Myford was also used when Graham needed accurate dimensions of the headstock interface and surrounding metal. I removed the headstock from the bed, mounted it left-hand end upwards on my Bridgeport. Using the DRO and an electronic probe, all the relevant dimensions, centres etc. where obtained and passed to Graham. Input gears on this one are Nylacast OILON as an experiment in quiet running. I also have Tufnol and Bronze gears for comparison.
The main spindle is the extended version (for DAG Brown’s metric system) and the third photo shows all of this as well.
The final photo shows it installed.
