DELOREAN

By R Foster

This model of the iconic DeLorean by R Foster was one of the many models at Doncaster in 2019 to catch they eye.

The DeLorean was a sports car manufactured by John DeLorean for the American market from 1981 to 1983 in Northern Ireland. The car was designed by Giorgetto Giugiaro and stood out for its gull-wing doors and brushed stainless-steel outer body panels, as well as an innovative fiberglass body structure with a steel backbone chassis. Engineering of the production car was by Colin Chapman. Power and performance did not match the expectations created by its looks and cost, but it became iconic for its appearances as the time machine in the movie Back to the Future after 1985.

The first production car was completed on January 21, 1981. About 9,000 DeLoreans were made before production halted in late December 1982. Up to 6,500 DeLorean cars may still exist.
