The East Somerset Society of Model and Experimental Engineers know a thing or two about narrow gauge locomotives in 7.25” gauge. Based at the Bath & Western Showground near Shepton Mallet, its super track hosts plenty of public running, not least at the Royal Bath and West Show. During the four days of this year’s show (2017) it set a new passenger hauling record of 8295 trips on 699 runs, averaging nearly 12 passengers per train, including one day of bad weather. With that sort of workload it was no surprise to see, at the Bristol show, this super new loco built by the ESSMEE for the Bath & West Railway.
