HUDSWELL CLARKE

0-6-0 SADDLE TANK

This model is of a Hudswell Clarke 0-6-0 operated by the Manchester Ship Canal Company, one of a number from that maker to be used by them in their 70 strong fleet. Hudswell Clark was founded in 1860 in Leeds, and the locomotive business is now part of the Hunslet Engine Company.

As well as standard gauge Hudswell Clarke also built a standardized range of narrow gauge engines and 188 of these were produced. In the 1930s the company also made narrow gauge steam outline diesel hydraulic locos for use in amusement parks.

This model pictured at Harrogate in 2014 is by D Thorpe and is finished in the Manchester Ship Canal Company’s grey livery.
