Another fine 3D printed model from Thomas.

The legendary C.P. Huntington is a 4-2-4T Steam locomotive built in 1863 for the Central Pacific Railroad.

This 3D-printed model is based on Julius’ drawings, originally designed for a wooden version. Overall dimensions and details are retrieved from drawings and pictures of the California State Railroad Museum in the US.

The model has 492 separate printed parts in PLA in different colours and materials. The majority of parts are assembled with stainless steel fasteners and brass inserts. Copper tubes and threaded rods are purchased parts.

The main challenge was to make a design to avoid the use of glue. Glue was only applied for embedded inlays.

The Huntington is designed for 127mm (5”) gauge and has an overall length of 820 mm.
