Trevor Collyer’s
IVATT CLASS 2T
Trevor Collyer brought his magnificent unpainted Ivatt Class 2T in 7.25” gauge to the Harrogate show in 2012. Starting point was the drawings by Dick Stockings for the BR Standard Class 2T. These were modified to represent the Ivatt design on which the BR locomotive was based. Trevor incorporated detail from a works GA (available from Blackgates Engineering) and photographs of preserved locos at the Keighley & Worth Valley and Mid-Hants railways. Two more are on the Isle of Wight.
Having seen the success of the Prairie tanks on the Great Western, George Ivatt designed a 2-6-2 for the Midland. The 2T was based on the earlier 2-6-2 designed by Stanier, which in turn were based on a Fowler design. They were introduced between 1946 and 1952 and designed for light mixed traffic work. They incorporated self-emptying ash pans and rocking grates.
No 41314 was one of the last batch built at Crewe and one of 30 of the class allocated to the Southern Region.
