The large wheel skeleton clock is one of the late, great John Wilding’s most popular and attractive designs, popular with model engineers. From the MEWS photo archive this is Hywel Lambert’s clock - just the second clock he made and it keeps reasonable time.

The design is based on a French clock with a large escape wheel, which is the tricky part of this project and requires some care. Despite its size the great wheel for this particular clock was made on a 3” Sherline lathe, with what Hywel describes as “a bit of Jiggery pokery.”
