McLAREN 1:3 SCALE 10NHP ROAD LOCOMOTIVE MAUD
Les Riley
This model is based on the full size engine Boadicea built in 1919 by J & H McLaren of Leeds. Note the unusual round coal bins. It was designed as a three speed, heavy road haulage engine.
The boiler was made commercially by Tony Baldwin of Ripley, Derbys. Any castings used were bought as un-machined parts. Everything else was made from solid stock or fabricated, Including the crankshaft, gears and the various rolled items.
Building occupied 11 years. The completed the model weighs 3/4 of a ton.
Les Riley steamed his 1:3 scale McLaren 10NHP road locomotive at a Midlands Model Engineering Exhibition.
