THE SUFFOLK
STEAM TRACTOR

From the MEWS archive, this Suffolk tractor was photographed at a Midlands Model Engineering Exhibition. It is to John Haining’s great, quirky design from the 1970s in 1:4 scale.

The original tractor was historic, being a last throw of the dice for steam by a resilient Sentinel in the 1930s as the internal combustion engine took over.

Suffolk models are good to drive and boast a large twin cylinder engine powered by a neat compact boiler with a large firebox.
