THAMES STEAM
YACHT SHEILA
Arthur Ridley

From the MEWS archive, Arthur Ridley’s Thames steam yacht Sheila was photographed at an Alexandra Palace exhibition. It was scratch built from a plan by Basil Harvey, enlarged by 20%. Power unit is a twin-cylinder double-acting 0.5” bore oscillating engine running at around 1000rpm, supplied from a 3” boiler operating at 20psi.

It features a boiler low level water indicator using a a float switch which turns on a lamp at the top of the stern flagpole, rather than the usual glass tube gauge.
