BUILDING A TIGER TANK

Part 8 by Vince Cutajar

Fitted the swing arms and torsion bars to the hull.
Assembled and fitted the idler assemblies. Started off by gluing in the brass bush. Left it protruding a little to remove the 1mm end float in the idler shaft and also to leave space for the O-ring.
Next inserted the rubber O ring.
Lubricated the O-ring and the idler shaft to help in easing in the shaft. Fitted the rest of the parts and also rounded off the head of the long adjuster bolt.
Adjusted everything so that the idler shaft sits at the lowest position.

Cleaned and etch primed all the road wheel hubcaps.
I also prepared the Y road wheel small spacer for priming by first cleaning them up. Then glued in one of the bearings. Put it on one of the swing arm axles and gluing in the other bearing.
Doing it this way I made sure that the bearings line up properly.
Drilled and tapped a 3mm hole just above the vision port and made a special screw (from the scrap bin) to lock the armour in the open position.
Like this I can have the port either open or closed and I can reach the screw from the driver's hatch.
I also covered the port with a piece of Lexan sheet but left the Lexan protective cover in place.
Started the slow process of assembling and final painting of the road wheels.
The inner faces of the above road wheel were pre-painted prior to assembly. All that remains for this road wheel is painting the outer faces.

For this road wheel I will first paint the fixing hardware before fitting the other wheel. The inner faces have already been pre-painted.

Two finished wheels.
