This iconic model triple expansion engine was originally designed by O B Bolton and revised by J P Bertinat and is based on a typical engine used to power large ships in the 19/20th Centuries. Complete expansion of the steam occurs across three cylinders with an efficiency of around 63% compared with 45% for turbines. They were used in Liberty Ships during World War II using parts made on conventional machine tools, unlike steam turbines. Cylinders of the model are 7/8” x 1 1/4” x 1 3/4” x 1 1/4” stroke.
