What to do with an important model collection has been a problem for many as they get older. Stephen Wessel has found his solution.
Stephen reports: “I have recently donated my three large aero engines to the Avro Heritage Museum at Woodford, nr Manchester. They should be on display later this year when protective cases have been built.
“All three prototypes had strong connections with Avro so it's the best place for them. The museum will also have possession of provenance, including drawings, maintenance manuals, published articles, videos, etc.”
The engines in historical order are:
*ENV type F 60Hp, 1/2 scale (1910)
*Gnome Monosoupape B2 100Hp 1/3 scale (1913)
*Armstrong Siddeley Lynx IV 200Hp 1/3 scale (1925)
“All of them run very well and it is hoped the museum will organise running days. The Gnome engine is the prototype of many models around the world built to my drawings, some of them flying. Drawings and further information are available from me.”
