19TH CENTURY BEAM ENGINE

Gentleman Engineer

This fine model of a 19th Century beam engine was displayed at an exhibition by the Society of Model and Experimental Engineers from its collection. Maker’s name and date are unknown, but is thought to have been constructed by a ‘gentleman engineer’ (Model Engineering was a popular hobby for middle class Victorians) or perhaps the work of a clock or instrument maker sometime from the 1850s onwards. It shows fine workmanship, based on a full sized engine, in  1:24 scale.
