My thanks to Julius de Waal for his excellent design of Robert Stephenson's Rocket as well as the permission to use the drawings for non-commercial purposes.
I was bitten by the 3D printing bug a while ago and decided to make an attempt at reproducing a half-sized model using mainly 3D printed parts. Half-size to accommodate my printer's bed size and also as I do not have physical room for a Rocket close to 4 ft long as per Julius's original design.
My version was re-modelled in 3D design software so I could produce the necessary STL files for the printer software.
The most tedious job was installing about 800 copper and brass rivet heads - the 3D printer did not have the resolution to print satisfactory rivet heads.
The chassis for the loco and all axles are primarily aluminum (North American spelling) for sufficient rigidity otherwise the loco is about 90% plastic and the tender 98%.
