This 3D printed model is based on Julius’ drawings of a coal fired 2-4-0 steam locomotive called “LEEUWENHOEK”.                                                                                         Julius’ drawings needed some alterations to make 3D printing possible and/or easier.                                                              Original drawings were based on 7.25 Inch (184mm) gauge.                                                                         This model is scaled to 75% because of available printer volume.

It has 755 separate printed parts, approx. 900 brass threaded inserts, all assembled with a variety of stainless-steel fasteners. No glue was used, except for window frames, cabin-and wheel covers striping.

Copper tubing, brass handrails and copper rivets are purchased parts.

Julius’ PDF drawings were changed into CREO/ELEMENTS (PTC) format and transferred into STL-files for 3D printing.

For educational purposes some cross sections were added to show interior of fire-box, boiler, safety-valve and cylinders.

Printing itself was done with 1.75 mm PLA using printer CR5-Pro-H (CREALITY).

Colors used: Black, Grey, Red, Green, Silver and Bronze.
