BEGINNER’S HORIZONTAL STEAM ENGINE

By Julius de Waal

Here is a simple little horizontal steam engine, especially for beginners. With just 14 parts including a wooden base, plus a few screws it will not take too long to see the result. It is a simple exercise in turning and drilling, with some soldering which needs to be done carefully. Practice soldering before starting the model! There are plenty of books to help the beginner learn the required machining techniques before starting a project. The material cost is inexpensive and any part which the builder is unhappy with should be replaced.
