In model engineering circles there is plenty of choice of designs for GWR 4-6-0 locomotives descended from the Saint Class. The Manor class was a lighter version of the Grange class, itself a smaller version of the Halls and Saints, the two-cylinder 4-6-0s. Four cylinder members of the family included the Kings and Castles.
Some 30 Manors were built, fitted with the new Standard No 14 boiler, rather than the No 1 fitted to the larger contemporary Hall locomotives. The first of the class was 7800, Torquay Manor, built in 1938, and famously designed in 5” gauge by Martin Evans in the early 1970s, and one of the most popular 4-6-0 models of all time. It is rare not to see at least one in a model engineering exhibition.
This Manor, shown by A Gent at the 2015 Midlands Model Engineering Exhibition, is of No 7822, Foxcote Manor.
