BURRELL TRACTION ENGINE IN 1:3 SCALE
Burrell traction engines are as popular as can be. Designs and castings are available in a range of scales up to 1:2. This is a 1:3 scale single cylinder agricultural engine built by Roger Dennis and shown at the Bristol exhibition. To get to know these engines a visit to Norfolk is called for, and the Charles Burrell Museum in Thetford. One source for drawings and castings in 1:3 scale is Live Steam Models. Also boiler fittings. MEWS has long campaigned for fabrication rather than castings, where possible. However, traction engines on this scale (definitely not a mini lathe project) are quite heavy engineering and castings make a lot of sense. Fabricating 3” cylinders is not for most of us.
