ROBERTSON 1880 SEMI ROTARY ENGINE
By Herbert Stumm
Herbert Stumm’s model of the fascinating Robertson semi-rotary engine from the United States around 1880, photographed at a National Model Engineering and Modelling Exhibition. The design was found in the book Modern Steam Engines.
With its curved square pistons it was a difficult model to build; the pistons are difficult to seal. Rotating into fresh air also gives poor economy. However, they are great to watch.
